The 6th of December was a day packed with lots of fun and excitement for everyone at IIM Indore as it witnessed the event, ‘Utthaan’, a sports day organized for students of from nearby government schools. This event was organized by Ranbhoomi’19 the annual sports fest of IIM Indore along with i-Help, a student initiative that teaches and helps the underprivileged children from government schools.

True to its name ‘Utthaan’ aimed at the upliftment of women and their participation in sports, and to promote the social cause of “Bridging the Gap”. The event started at 9:30 in the morning with the arrival of the children and their school teachers into the cricket ground. A volunteer said, “it was a beautiful sight to witness a plethora of children running towards the ground chirping and laughing.”

Various games and activities such as “Dog and Bone”, “Handkerchief Game”, “The Glass Pyramid”, “Dribble Drop Dance” and many others were organized for the children who totalled a whopping 170. The event aimed at promoting education through various games and sports. Values such as discipline, sports spirit, and team building were promoted.

It was not long before that the student volunteers also started trying their hands at the games, but they were still no match for the young kids. The event also saw a huge participation by young girls and they remained unmatched in most games. The Glass Pyramid and Dodgeball were the favourites amongst the children.

“Seeing the children play each game so skilfully, and with so much confidence and concentration reminded us of our school days”, said one of the volunteers. Soon, the famished kids and volunteers had some refreshments, and after almost two hours of running, dodging and falling the kids still had the energy to play again. Soon, it was time to go and as one of the volunteers asked them if they would come again, all of them chirped back and said yes. “It was indeed a great experience for us and we are very happy with the success of the event, and we can’t wait for the next Utthaan”, a bunch of volunteers rightfully summed it up.
