IIM Raipur conducts Fin-Talk 2.0

Finatix – The Finance Club of IIM Raipurconducted the second edition of Fin-Talk – The Guest Lecture Series on the 17th December 2018. This Guest Lecture Series aims to complement students’ academic knowledge with industry’s perspective.


The speaker of the day was Ms. Lakshmi Iyer, Chief Investment Officer, Fixed Income and Head-Products of Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company.Ms Iyer is recognized as one of the top 25 most influential women in asset management in Asia by Asian Investor. She has spearheaded the exchange traded fund strategies for the firm and have won global accolades by Asia Asset Management.


The topic of the discussion was “Risks, Opportunities, and Future of Financial Institutions and Capital Markets in India”.


Ms. Iyer spoke on subjects like Fixed Income, Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI), Foreign Domestic Investment (FDI) andDerivative Markets. She also spoke about the importance of Financial literacy in today’s dynamic world.She educated the students about the opportunities and roles in Finance as a broad sector. She emphasized that one needs to focus on the technical nuances of the ever-changing markets and making inferences and predictions by following their trends.


Ms. Iyer said that patience played a key role as the markets have always been known to test an investor’s patience. She explained the consequences of various business risks and decisions especially with respect to the capital markets in India. She also contemplated what, according to her, will the future hold for the financial institutions of India.


Students actively participated in the session and enthusiastically asked various questions on the topic. Prof. Yogesh Chauhan, Assistant Professor of Finance, IIM Raipur thanked Ms. Iyer for providing this learning opportunity to the students by providing them insights and a fresh perspective about the various aspects of the Finance domain. He also thanked Ms. Iyer for explaining the students about the growing need for financial literacy in India and the importance of always being financially aware.


As future managers, the students found the session especially helpful. The students learned about the various nuances of the finance industry and how the ever-changing markets provide equal parts risk and opportunities. They understood the necessity to stay updated and were also encouraged to not be afraid to choose Finance as a specialization.
