The word icon does justice to Sunil Bharti Mittal, the Chairman and Group CEO, Bharti Enterprises. On June 12, the entrepreneur who heads the top telecom company in India, delivered a talk at the Mohali campus on Leadership: Translating Vision to Reality and also inaugurated the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital (EVC) Club.
Mittal recounted the Bharti success story to educate the audience on the values and spirit of entrepreneurship and how he turned his dreams into a reality. Mittal began by expressing his delight at the progress of the Mohali Campus, expressing his belief in the new campus as a beacon of hope for future leaders. Analjit Singh, Chairman, Max India Group was also present on the occasion. Mittal exhorted the budding entrepreneurs to have aspirations greater than the resources available, and said that holding this belief close to one's heart is what entrepreneurship is all about. He went on to state that in the early days, access to capital was very limited but times are changing, and today it is easier to fund ideas and vision. He talked about why Bharti's business transformation is frequently discussed across the world's top business schools, namely its partnerships with international domain experts, best in class people, an understanding of the market and capital. Mittal also cited examples on how some decisions made by Bharti during the difficult times helped shape the company's success.
He gave an insight into the company's evolution and transition from entrepreneurially led - professionally supported to professionally led - entrepreneurially supported. Mittal fielded questions from the enthusiastic students about the telecom industry's future and entrepreneurial spirit. He then formally inaugurated the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Club.
