Orientation Program for the 1st Batch of Fellow Program in Management (FPM) and 3rd Batch of Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), started on June 28that IIM Raipur Campus. The orientation program is a 4 day programme aimed at assisting students to understand the culture of the Institute, make smooth transition to management education, form valuable connections with seniors, faculty and staff and for instilling in them a positive work attitude and motivation right at the very outset.
The Orientation program is designed with an emphasis on the mental as well as physical development of the students. It is designed with the aim of developing them as Corporate athletes. Consequently, contents of the program include food for thought – motivational and inspiring insights derived from experience of eminent speakers to Yoga classes aimed at developing the physical stamina.

The first day of the Orientation program started with Welcome address by Prof. B.S.Sahay, Director, IIM Raipur. In his address the director stressed on rigorous academic and professional training, conducting industry relevant high quality research, maintaining symbiotic relations with the corporate and other national/international institutes of repute. He voiced the vision of IIM Raipur by emphasizing that the Institute’s agenda is high but its commitment towards quality education, research for regional and national growth even stronger. He reiterated the primary goal of establishing IIM Raipur as a world class institute. He welcomed the students on their exciting journey at IIM Raipur, to an opportunity to develop themselves as professionals contributing to the regional and national growth and development.
Mr. Sandeep Dhar, CEO, TESCO shared his experiences and life learnt lessons when he posited that the mantra for success lay in developing and diversifying one’s skill set. He also asked the students to develop themselves as entrepreneurs by focusing on the big picture and by keenly understanding and critically developing business propositions.
Mr. Pankaj Gautam, CEO, Bhilai Steel Plant, supported earlier views of the speakers and added that one of the biggest challenges and issues before a manager was to create a culture of commitment and productivity. Such a culture, he opined, would give rise to leaders who constantly reinvent themselves, their roles and work closely with people as team members. This he believed could be the biggest asset of any company, as it served asthe stepping stone to buildindividual and organisational resilience in turbulent economic times.
The Chief Guest for the occasion Shri Sunil Kumar, Chief Secretary, Government of Chhattisgarh encouraged students to think beyond themselves, to develop concern for their community and society. He exhorted that national level institutes of education have an additional responsibility of correcting regional and social imbalances by “serving the underserved”, other than enhancing the quality and access to education. In his inspiring address he gave a snapshot of the institute and its corefounding principles.
The afternoon session started with the energetic session by Mr. Santosh Bhave, Vice President HR-Bharat Forge. In a lively question and answer session with the students he told them to focus on and build human capital for the success of any entreprise. He also asked the students to have an accurate self analysis, to develop flexibility and leadership skills, to inculcate and groom their ability, to handle cross culture scenarios and issues in the globalised world of today.
Similar thoughts were echoed by Mr. Vinod Behari, Executive Director, HR, Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd., where he also emphasized on meeting the industry expectations from business schools to meet the continuousand ever changing demands of today’s business. He urged the students to be high on professionalism, have state of art knowledge and effective skill set, to be constantly abreast with the global changes and challenges and have the right attitude to learn, unlearn and relearn. This he believed was the foundation of a successful career.
