ISB JAMS India Conference 2018

Indian School of Business kicked off the three day JAMS India Conference here in Hyderabad today. JAMS stands for Journal of Academy of Marketing Science and the conference represents the largest collection of research papers (over 100) from global scholars on Marketing Strategies for Emerging Markets and India on topics including Customer Engagement, Social and Digital Media, Product and Brand Management, CRM, Innovation, Retailing and Pricing.

 

Speaking at the conference, Professor Rajendra Srivastava, Dean, ISB opined that there is a need to integrate insights from East and West. From the viewpoint of digital transformation, the Indian market is placed in a unique position that could play the important integrating role. Talking about research requirements in the marketing strategy domain, the Dean mentioned that there is a need to understand the opportunity cost of not taking a risk and making a decision. He also aspired to make ISB as the future sabbatical capital of the world.

 

Speaking at the conference, Mr Sameer Khetarpal, Country Manager, Amazon Grocery opined that there is a constant need to change the operating models to serve the customers effectively. Speaking from Amazon’s successful marketing experience in India, especially from Tier-III cities, he mentioned that Amazon believes that it is the affordability that matters and not the pricing.

 

Speaking from the perspective of healthcare and medicine, Mr Raja, MVSMA, Vice President, Emerging Markets, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd., opined that there is a need to understand the unmet needs of the people, convert it into a product and market it with a strong backend support. The emerging markets must understand its needs and accordingly innovate.

 

In his address, Mr Jay Kishnan, CEO, T-Hub, mentioned that India’s next propulsion will come from Start-ups, as liquidity is no longer an issue. The four things which are critical for a marketing strategy in the current disruptive world are – policy, market style, access to capital and the potential to scale.

 

The Chief Editors of various marketing journals are Dr Rajeep Grewal, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill & Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Marketing Research; Dr V Kumar, Georgia State University & Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Marketing and Dr Rob Palmatier, University of Washington, Editor-in-Chief, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, are also participating the three day conference. 

 

The Conference is attended by around 150 senior researchers representing various institutions and companies across the world. Some of the selected papers will be published in the prestigious Journal of Academy of Marketing Science.
