If you are someone who doesn’t know about link aadhaar with savings bank account, this article is for you. Just to give you a sneak peak, the notification issued on 1 July, 2017, the Government has made it mandatory to link the saving bank account with the 12-digit unique identification number.


Apart from a bank account, it is also a compulsory thing to update your mobile number, PAN Card, Driving License, Insurance Policies or not with your Unique Identification Number. However, earlier the deadline for linking the same was 31 December, 2017 but the Government had decided to extend the last date to 31 March, 2018. So, those who haven’t linked their accounts with their link aadhaar with bank account, it is compulsory for them to link the same before the deadline as doing so after the due date will block their accounts.


You read it right! Your bank account/s can be seized if you fail to update your universal ID with your respective account. However, one thing that needs to be mentioned here is the fact that those who are not having an aadhaar right now, should create the one and submit the proof of application of the same in order to prevent the bank account from getting blocked. Who are Eligible to Link the Bank Account?


Indian Residents who have respective bank accounts are basically eligible for aadhaar linkage.

Businesses, Trust or Joint Accounts, having power of attorney have to submit their details to their own banks.

The NRIs (Non Resident Indians) belong to specified rules of the banks, need to show their non-resident proof in order to link their 12-digit unique identification number with their respective bank account/s.

Steps to Link 12-digit Numeric Number with Bank Account


If we talk about the process of linking, it is quite simple and quick. There are online and offline modes with the help of which you can anytime link your aadhaar credentials with your respective account. To know more about the same, read the steps below.


Online Mode: If you are using an online medium to solve this purpose, NetBanking is no doubt one of the simplest features you need to consider.


Step 1: Log-in to your bank account by using Net Banking

Step 2: After opening the account, look for Aadhaar Seeding and click on the same

Step 3: Enter your aadhaar number and re-enter the same for confirmation

Step 4: Click on the submit button


Offline Mode:If you think that visiting a bank branch is your thing, go ahead as linking of the aadhaar can also be possible with the same. Read the steps below.


Step 1: Visit the nearest bank branch

Step 2: Ask for aadhaar seeding form

Step 3: Submit the duly signed form with a photocopy of your aadhaar

Step 4: Don’t forget to bring the original aadhaar card for further authentication



  • After 3-4 working days, an e-KYC (Know your Customer) authentication procedure is followed by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)

  • Some banks have the option of linking Aadhaar with bank accounts with the help of an IVRS call which will guide you step by step.

  • There is also an option to link by sending an SMS to the respective number of the bank.
