The number of students opting for destination Canada for overseas education is increasing every year. Not only do students trust the Canadian institutions for their advanced research expertise but the multi-fold scholarships options for researchers is also an additional factor for students inclination for choosing to pursue doctoral degrees in Canada.
Requirements to study PhD in Canada
The PhD program you apply to will have its own unique set of requirements which students can confirm with the university you’re are taking admission in. To be eligible to take apply, you will need to fulfil the following requirements.  
• Master’s degree in a related field, with minimum percentage required and proven research ability
• Proof of language proficiency-English and French* are the main spoken in Canada, you can submit IELTS test report form as your language proof in English and TFI for French. 
(French is mandatory if you want to pursue your higher education in Quebec)
• Adequate scores in a graduate admissions test- GMAT or GRE
• In exceptional cases, if a student has achieved extremely high grades in their Bachelor's programme, they can be granted with permission to pursue PhD in Canada without a master’s degree. 
Duration of a PhD degree and cost of study
Usually, the duration of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is about four to six years, it mostly depends on how soon the candidate completes their research. The tuition fees to study a doctoral degree in Canada varies for every institution and as per the course of choice, although to international students, the approximate cost of studying PhD is around $16000 per annum.  
Scholarships to study in Canada
There are many scholarships available to students pursuing their Doctors of Philosophy in Canada. Also, various universities encourage eligible students in research programmes by providing them with financial aid and bursaries to support their education abroad.
Working Part-time with your PhD program
International students pursuing a full-time course with study permit are available to work along with their studies for up to 20 hours a week during the semester and full time during off semester breaks. Also, candidates can take up research or teaching assistantship in wherein you could work as a research assistant with your faculty in your institution and in exchange avail stipend or partial tuition fee waiver* (although, you have to confirm the latter option with the university)  
Work options in Canada after completing your doctoral degree
After you have successfully completed your PhD program, you can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit. Once you get this, you will be allowed to work in Canada for 3 years after the completion of your PhD programme.
